Planetarium Tour

arrived in the department in late August of 2010. Located in the basement of the Astronomy & Astrophysics
building at 50 St. George street, the planetarium dome is a GeoDome Theatre, and the software used is
Uniview, which was designed to display the Digital Universe catalog from NASA and the Hayden planetarium.
During our public nights, the planetarium shows take place in parallel with the telescope tours. We offer 4
shows per evening, at 15 minute intervals. Due to the limited size of the dome and time constraints, chances
are that not all tour attendees will be able to see a planetarium show during the tour."

who invites a homeless guy to come and stay ... to refugee homes in Winnipeg and Toronto.
We'll also be knocking on doors at a L'Arche community and at the Munk School of Global Affairs.
This hospitality idea has implications all over the world.
Tune in Sunday afternoons for an engaging, provocative and unexpected hour of radio: an hour in
which rabbis and poets get equal time on the topic of faith - science-fiction writers and physicist-priests
ponder the great creation myths - scholars and gardeners explore the garden as a spiritual metaphor ? and
architects examine the idea of space for the soul."

December 22, Thursday, 12:30pm (12:30pm EST, 5:30 UTC). December Solstice.
Quote: "Solstice is an astronomical term regarding the position of the Sun in relation to
the earth's equator.
The name is derived from Latin solstitium (from sol: 'sun' and sistere: 'stand still').
During the year, the position of the sun seen from earth moves North and South.
When it changes direction it stands still momentarily.
So solstices are those moments of the year when the sun reaches its southernmost or northernmost
position, at the Tropic of Capricorn or Tropic of Cancer.
Solstice festivals were common (and held primacy) in most cultures of the ancient world."

December 31, Saturday. New Year's Eve.
Quote: "New Year's Eve is 31 December, the final day of the Gregorian year, and the day before New Year's Day.
New Year's Eve is a separate observance from the observance of New Year's Day. In 21st-century Western practice,
New Year's Eve is celebrated with parties and social gatherings spanning the transition of the year
at midnight.

December 31, Saturday, 7pm. RSVP Required. Free. Animal Welfare Meetup and Vegan Meetup -
New Year's Eve Vegan Potluck and Party.
Quote: "2011 is steadily tick-tocking away and, if you're anything like me, you always seem
to leave the planning of your New Year's Eve activities until, almost literally, the last minute!
Well fear not my fellow veg-heads, as I've got the perfect solution for the holiday blues-a New
Year's Eve Vegan Potluck and Party!
So come on out to just beyond the border of Toronto to finish off the year with some great company,
great food, and a great time!
The festivities start up at 7pm and go until ???...well, definitely until after midnight!
Let me know if you need to crash overnight and I'll reserve you a blanket and a hunk of carpeted floor.
Getting here is pretty easy, as it's about a 12 minute walk (2 min. drive if you take a cab) from Long
Branch Go Station and Loop, serviced by the Lakeshore West Go Train line (20 min. ride from Union),
the 110 and 123 buses from Islington and Kipling Subway Stations, respectively (each about a 20 min.
ride from the subway), and the 24 hour 501 Queen Streetcar. If you're driving, you'll take the Dixie Rd.
exit from the QEW and head south (follow the signs as you get off the highway and make sure to hang a
left at the first traffic lights you come to!). Feel free to call me at 416-648-3275 if you get turned
around or any other need that may arise.
Food, of course, needs to be vegan, so nothing of an animal origin (including honey) and if you're
bringing anything chocolate, please make it fair trade to avoid child slavery. Oh, and please B.Y.O.B. ;)
As always, r.s.v.p. so I have an idea of numbers and if you have any questions, ask away!
Hope to see many of you Saturday but, if not.....
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Paul :)"
Location: Paul's Place, 1035 Fergus Ave., Unit 6, Mississauga, ON.
